Belles Finish Seventeenth at Calvin Invite

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In a field full of high-caliber runners and teams, the Saint Mary's cross country team placed seventeenth at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday.

NCAA Division II powerhouse and USTFCCCA No. 1 ranked Grand Valley State University won the team title with a score of 63. NAIA No. 2 ranked Aquinas was second with a team score of 68. Fellow NAIA program and No. 25 ranked Madonna was third with a 90. The Belles had a team score of 454 at the 5k event.

Adele Edmonds led the Belles with a personal record 5k time of 19:39.1 to finish 50th overall and earn 46 points toward the team score. Anna McClowry was the next Saint Mary's harrier across the finish line in a time of 20:05.9 for 74th place overall and 63 points.

Shanan Hamilton and Katie Glenn finished within nine seconds of one another. Hamilton posted a time of 21:10.8 to finish 135th overall and earn 108 points. Glenn ran a 21:19.1 for 144th in the field to score 111 points. Maura Honan wrapped up the team score with a time of 21:55.3 to place 168th and put 126 points to the team score.

Fiona Winfrey crossed the finish line in 22:06.9 to place 177th in a field of more than 200 runners. KC McQuaid was a short distance behind and turned in a 22:24.6 for 188th. Emily Harrast rounded out the field for the Belles with her best 5k time since her freshman season with a 22:33.6 for 193rd.

Next up for the Belles will be the MIAA Jamboree, which is hosted by Hope on Saturday, September 23.
