Belles Place Seventh at MIAA Jamboree

HOLLAND, Mich. - Extreme heat and humidity for late September undoubtedly played a factor at the MIAA Cross Country Jamboree as Saint Mary's placed seventh with a team score of 194 on Saturday.

Hope won the event with a team score of 34 while Calvin placed second with a 48. Trine was third with a score of 92. The Belles were within striking distance of sixth-place Adrian, who posted a team score of 181.

Adele Edmonds led the way for Saint Mary's with a time of 24:41.7 to finish 30th overall and earn 25 points toward the team score. Fiona Winfrey was the second Belle across the line with a time of 26:53.4 to earn 39 points while placing 66th.

Shanan Hamilton was right behind Winfrey and picked up 40 points with a time of 27:01.6 after finishing 68th. Maura Honan was not far behind with a time of 27:20.6 to place 79th and earn 44 points. Emily Harrast rounded out the team score with 46 points after finishing 83rd overall in a time of 27:35.7.

Several runners from multiple schools did not finish the race due to the heat.

Next up for the Belles will be the Bethel Invitational, which takes place on Friday, October 6 at St. Patrick's County Park in South Bend.
