Belles Place Sixth at MIAA Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Saint Mary's cross country team placed sixth at the MIAA Championship race, which was held at Eastern Hills Golf Club on Saturday.

No. 14 ranked Hope won the event with a score of 32. Calvin, who is ranked No. 22, placed second with 57 points, and Trine was third with a score of 78. Saint Mary's was just 19 points behind fifth-place Kalamazoo's score of 131 as the Belles turned in a team score of 150. Albion's Cassie Vince won the individual title with a 6k time of 21:29.7.

Adele Edmonds paced the Saint Mary's pack with a time of 24:03.4 to place 23rd and earn 21 points toward the team total. Katie Glenn was the next Saint Mary's runner across the finish line as the junior posted a 24:22.8 for 28th place overall and 24 points. Sarah Allen was not far behind as she ran a 24:47.2 to earn 28 points and place 40th.

Brigid Conmy, Emily Blank, and Gabby Russell all finished within seconds of one another. Conmy ran a 25:56.9 for 38 points in 60th place. Emily Blank made a strong push to the finish to pass three runners as she posted a season-best 6k time of 25:57.8 for 61st place overall and 39 points. Gabby Russell edged out a runner from Albion for 62nd place with a time of 25:58.0.

Riley Swope turned in a time of 26:18.0 for 69th place overall. Shanan Hamilton was inched out in a gritty finish with a time of 26:58.8 as a Kalamazoo runner narrowly beat her for 79th as the junior took 80th place. Claudia Stiglitz ran a 27:13.5 for 85th place, and Emily Harrast posted a 27:21.5 for 88th. Maura Honan had a time of 29:09.1 as the junior finished 105th. Michaela Barry rounded out the Saint Mary's efforts with a 30:25.3 for 112th.

The Belles will conclude their season in two weeks at the NCAA Regional race, which is hosted by Franklin College.
