Department of Education

Passion. Commitment. Communication. As an educator, you’ll have a significant impact on the future, on society, and on the lives of children. In our Department of Education, you’ll develop the practical skills you need to fulfill your dreams of educating young minds.

We offer a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in elementary education with the expectation that teacher candidates will apply for an Indiana teaching license (grades K-6) upon completion of the program. Indiana requires the elementary teacher candidate to complete an additional licensure or minor area. We offer four options: the Mild Intervention license (K-6), the Reading license (P-12), the English as a Second Language or Bilingual/Bicultural education minor (can lead to P-12 licensure in ESL with additional coursework), and the Early Childhood minor.

Secondary teacher candidates pursue a major in the areas of English, modern languages, mathematics, science (chemistry or life science), history, or political science along with the minor in secondary education, which leads to Indiana secondary (grades 5-12) licensure.

The Department of Education also offers music education (P-12) and visual arts education (P-12), in which the teacher candidate completes courses in her respective major along with minors courses in education.

Our invaluable field placements afford candidates the opportunity to apply what they are learning. In addition to three diverse field placements, candidates complete a yearlong internship during the senior year, which includes student teaching.
