Belles in Sixth After Day One at DePauw

CLAYTON, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 350 at the Deer Creek Golf Club and currently sits in sixth place after the first day of the DePauw Small College Classic.

Centre College holds the lead after a 316 while host DePauw is second with a 320. Centre's Whitney Miller shot the low round on the day, turning in a 74.

Christine Brown and Natalie Matuszak both shot rounds of 84 to lead Saint Mary's. Brown had 10 pars on the day with a 38 on the back nine while Matuszak cut four strokes off her front nine score for a 40 on the back nine as the seniors are tied with another player for 19th place individually.

Janice Heffernan had matching 45s on the front and back nine for a 90 on the day and a share of 31st. Cara Kielty was just two strokes behind with a 92 (t-35th). Jessica Kinnick rounded out the Belles' efforts on the day with a 94 (t-40th).

The Belles will look to move up in the field in the tournament as the two-day event concludes tomorrow.
