Belles Finish Fourth at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Saint Mary's golf team finished in fourth place at the Southwestern Invitational after a 342 team score on Tuesday.

Tenth-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor (667) made the jump from second to first place as they claimed the title by three strokes over the 19th-ranked host Southwestern (670). Trinity finished five strokes ahead of the Belles with a two-day score of 683. Southwestern's Karissa Speck earned medalist honors with a 76 on the day to end the tournament with a 160.

Doyle O'Brien led the way for the Belles on Tuesday after firing a 79 for the second-lowest score of the day. Paired with her 87 from Monday, the sophomore finished seventh overall with a 166. Six strokes separated the next three finishers for the Belles. Paige Pollak tied for 12th overall after a 90 today gave her a final score of 171. Christine Brown turned in an 88 and finished tied for 15th with a two-day score of 173.

Janice Heffernan shaved seven strokes off her score from yesterday for an 85 on Tuesday, giving her a share of 19th with a 177. Natalie Matuszak rounded out the Belles' top-five with a 95 for a two-day score of 191 (30th).

The Belles will have one more tournament to prepare for the MIAA NCAA qualifier rounds later this month as they will travel to Illinois Wesleyan's annual Spring Fling April 14-15.
