Belles Finish Second in Final Conference Standings

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished second in the final MIAA standings with a second place finish in the final round of conference season.

Olivet finished first in the two-day MIAA End of Season Jamboree while claiming their fifth conference title. The Comets shot a 336 and finished the two-day event with a score of 659. Saint Mary's turned in a 340, matching yesterday's score for a 680 on the weekend. Olivet's Theresa Damico was the medalist of the weekend jamboree after turning in an 81 after a 79 yesterday.

Paige Pollak tied for the best round on the day with an 80. Overall, she finished in a tie for third with a 163. Janice Heffernan followed her round of 82 yesterday with an 87 today to tie for seventh individually with a score of 169.

Amanda Graham shot an 87 today and was 13th with a two-day final of 173. Claire Boyle improved her score from yesterday by three strokes with an 86 today. She ended the event with a 175 to tie for 16th. Justine Bresnahan finished 20th individually with a 177 after shooting an 87 on Saturday.

Sammie Averill finished in a tie for 22nd with a two-day score of 182 with a 93 this afternoon. Jessica Kinnick tied for 32nd after a 99 on Saturday for a two-day score of 191.

With the completion of the final round of conference play, Janice Heffernan, Justine Bresnahan, Claire Boyle, and Amanda Graham were all named to the All-MIAA Second Team for their scores throughout the fall season. The four members of the team finished in the top 12 among all conference golfers in scoring average during the fall season to earn all-conference honors.

The Saint Mary's golf team will return to play in the spring semester. With their second place finish in conference play, the Belles will host one of three 18-hole rounds in the spring that will determine the conference's automatic qualifier for the 2013 Division III Golf Championships.
