Belles Take Ninth at Washington University Spring Invite

MADISON, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished ninth out of 20 teams at the highly-competitive Washington University in St. Louis Spring Invitational on Sunday.

NAIA No. 5 ranked William Woods won the tournament with a two-day score of 623 after shooting a 311 on Sunday. NCAA Division III No. 5 DePauw finished second with a score of 631 while No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis took third with a 636.

The Belles were ninth after shooting a 330 on Sunday to finish with a two-day score of 677 in a field that featured eight nationally-ranked teams from NCAA Division III, NAIA, and NJCA.

DePauw's Paige Gooch was the individual champion with a two-day score of 153 after carding a three-over par 75 at the Gateway National Golf Links.

Janice Heffernan led the Belles with a two-day score of 164 after shooting an 81 on Sunday to finish tied for 24th individually out of 112 participants.

Paige Pollak and Claire Boyle both finished the tournament with scores of 169 to hold a share of 41st place individually. Pollak shot an 82 for a five-stroke improvement from yesterday's round while Boyle had the team's low round of the day with an 80 to improve her score from Saturday by nine strokes.

Alexi Bown wrapped up the team score with an 87 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 64th with a two-day score of 175.

The Belles will be back on the course next Saturday, April 13 when they take part in the Hope College Dutch Spring Invitational.
