Belles Finish Third in First Round at Bedford Valley

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 338 to finish in third place at the first of two rounds played at Bedford Valley to wrap up the conference season.

Olivet won their fifth MIAA round of the season with a 326. Trine edged the Belles by four strokes for second place with a 334. Calvin's Carlia Canto was the medalist of the round with a one-over 73.

Ali Mahoney led the Belles for the second consecutive round by shooting an 80, which placed her in a tie for fifth place individually. She tied for second in par three scoring for the round and tied with two other players to lead the field with 12 pars. Paige Pollak was three strokes behind with an 83 to tie for ninth place individually. Pollak was the only golfer to finish in the top ten to birdie the par four number six hole as she also added nine pars.

Janice Heffernan and Alexi Bown finished within a stroke of one another to wrap up the team score. Heffernan shot an 87 and had eight pars in the round to finish tied for 16th. Bown turned in an 88 while sinking a pair of birdies to tie for 19th overall.

Sammie Averill was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible golfer and shot a 91 to finish in a tie for 25th place individually.

Katie Zielinski competed as an individual for Saint Mary's and shot an 87 to hold a share of 16th place.

The Belles conclude the fall portion of their season tomorrow at day two of the MIAA End of Season Jamboree at Bedford Valley beginning at 10:00 a.m.
