Belles in Second Place After First Jamboree

MARSHALL, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 341 at the Medalist Golf Club on Tuesday to place second in the first round of conference play this season.

Olivet led the field with a 329. The Belles' 341 was six strokes better than third place Calvin. Olivet's Theresa Damico was the medalist of the round with an individual effort of 78.

Paige Pollak shot an 80 to tie for second place individually to pace the Belles. Janice Heffernan tied for ninth place with a round of 86. Sammie Averill was a stroke behind with an 87 to hold a share of 11th place individually. Ali Mahoney rounded out the team score just a stroke back from Averill with an 88 to tie for 13th place overall. Courtney Carlson was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible competitor and shot a 90 to finish 18th.

The Belles travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday for the second of six rounds of MIAA golf. The round begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Milham Park Golf Course.
