Belles Hold Steady at Second at MIAA Jamboree

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team finished second for the third time in as many conference jamborees on Wednesday evening.

The Belles shot a 340 at the Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe to finish behind first-place Olivet, who turned in a 324. Olivet's Theresa Damico and Brooke Kastamo and Trine's Amy Worthington all tied for medalist honors with matching rounds of 79.

Janice Heffernan led the Belles' efforts on the day with an 80 after shooting a two-over par 38 on the back nine to tie for fourth place. Sammie Averill and Paige Pollak finished within a stroke of one another with scores of 84 and 85, respectively. Averill had a birdie on the par four ninth hole while finishing tied for sixth place. Pollak had a birdie on the par four first hole to finish in a tie for eighth place individually.

Ali Mahoney wrapped up the team score with a round of 91 to tie for 24th place overall. Courtney Carlson was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible golfer and shot a 94 to hold a share of 31st place.

The Belles compete in the fourth MIAA Jamboree, which will be hosted by at Trine University's Zollner Golf Course, on Saturday, October 5 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
