Belles in Fourth Place at Laura Bump Invitational

OSTRANDER, Ohio - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 341 on the first day of the 2014 Ohio Wesleyan Laura Bump Invitational, which puts them in sole possession of fourth place.

No. 22 ranked Wittenberg holds the lead in the field of 18 teams after shooting a 308 on Saturday. NAIA member Madonna University is second with a 319, and Denison sits in third after a 326. Brynn FitzGerald of Denison and Maggie Smith of Wittenberg led the individual scoring efforts with matching rounds of 75.

Sammie Averill led the Belles with an 82 on Saturday to hold a share of 13th place individually. Janice Heffernan was two strokes behind with an 84 to tie for the 22nd best score of the day.

Alexi Bown turned in an 86 (t-33rd) while Claire Boyle wrapped up the team score with an 89 (t-49th). Courtney Carlson was the fifth scoring-eligible golfer for the Belles and shot a 98 (84th).

Ali Mahoney played as an individual and carded a 92 (t-68th) on Saturday.

The tournament concludes at Mill Creek Golf Course on Sunday beginning at 8:00 a.m.
