Belles in Sixth After Day One at SMSU Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Saint Mary's golf team currently sits in sixth place after the first day of the Southwest Minnesota State University Invitational at the LPGA International Golf Course in Florida.

The Belles shot a 372 and are just six strokes behind NCAA Division II Harding University. Fellow Division II member Ferris State leads the field with a 337 as Saint Mary's is the lone NCAA Division III member in the tournament.

Minnesota State's Kenya Sethasompobe shot the low round of the day with an 80.

Alexi Bown paced the Belles with an 89 to hold a share of 16th place individually. Paige Pollak was a stroke behind with a 90 to tie for 18th in the field of 37 golfers.

Janice Heffernan added a 96 (28th) and Sammie Averill turned in a 97 (t-29th) to help the Belles and wrap up the team score. Ali Mahoney was the fifth scoring eligible golfer for Saint Mary's and shot a 109 (36th).

Courtney Carlson (97, t-29th) and Katie Zielinski (99, t-31st) competed as individuals in the tournament.

The second and final day of competition takes place on Friday, March 14 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
