Belles in Twelfth at Loaded WUSTL Spring Invitational

MADISON, Ill. - The Saint Mary's golf team currently sits in twelfth place at the talent-laden Washington University in St. Louis Spring Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links.

Ten of the 16 teams competing in the tournament this weekend are ranked in the NCAA Division III, NAIA, and NJCA Top 25 polls.

The Belles turned in a round one score of 346 and are nine strokes out of 11th and 12 strokes away from the top ten. Host and NCAA Division III No. 1 ranked Washington University in St. Louis currently leads the field after a tournament-record 300.

Individually, Olivia Lugar of Washington University in St. Louis and Jordie Peacock of William Woods lead the field after turning in even par 72s.

Janice Heffernan and Alexi Bown led the Belles' scoring efforts on the day as the pair both shot rounds of 85 and are tied with a group of players for 51st place individually.

Claire Boyle was just two strokes behind Heffernan and Bown as the sophomore turned in an 87 in her first round of the spring for a share of 59th. Courtney Carlson wrapped up the team score with an 89 (t-69th), which included the team's best score on the front nine (40). Paige Pollak was the fifth scoring eligible golfer and shot a 90 (t-78th) on day one.

The second round of the tournament begins with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. CDT tomorrow morning.
