Belles Take Second at Opening Round of Season

GRANGER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team shot a 346 in their first round of the year to finish second at day one of the Cross Town Rivalry, which was played at Knollwood Country Club.

NAIA No. 22 Bethel turned in the low team score of the round with a 327. Holy Cross finished third with a 373. Bethel's Jocelyn Ojala and Annie Smith tied for medalist honors with matching rounds of 79.

A trio of players led the way for the Belles. Ali Mahoney, Taylor Kehoe, and Courtney Carlson all turned in rounds of 86 for Saint Mary's to tie for fifth overall. Kaitlyn Cartone helped wrap up the score with an 88 (t-10th) while Rachel Kim matched that same score of 88 in the "play six, score four" format for the round. Lydia Lorenc turned in a 90 on the day as the team's sixth scoring-eligible golfer and held a share of 14th place.

Patty Meza led the players competing as individuals for Saint Mary's with an 86 (t-5th). Katie Zielinski carded an 88 (t-10th), and Kelsey Conkright shot a 90 (t-14th) for the Belles. Isabella Speedon tallied a 98 (t-23rd) while Courtney Quinlan rounded out the Saint Mary's efforts at the event with a 106 (28th).

The second round of the two-day event begins with noon tee times at Elbel Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday.
