Belles Win MIAA Jamboree by Three Strokes

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's golf team claimed their first win of the year by holding off second place Olivet by three strokes at the third MIAA Jamboree of the season on Thursday.

The Belles posted a round-low 333 to edge out the Comets' score of 336. Hope was third with a 340. The team victory marked the first MIAA Jamboree top finish for the Belles since the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian in the fall of 2012. Olivet's Brooke Kastamo was the medalist of the round with a 78 to match the MIAA course record at Thornapple Pointe.

Sammie Averill continued a strong surge this season with her second consecutive round of 79 to finish second individually. Ali Mahoney and Taylor Kehoe each recorded rounds of 84 to finish tied for sixth overall. Courtney Carlson shot an 86 to wrap up the team scoring while ending in a tie for 11th. Katie Zielinski rounded out the Belles' lineup at the event and shot a 93 to hold a share of 23rd.

Kaitlyn Cartone competed as an individual at the event for the Belles and matched Zielinski's round of 93 to also tie for 23rd out of more than 50 golfers.

The Belles make the short trek to Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana for the fourth MIAA Jamboree on Saturday, October 3 starting at 1:00 p.m.
