Belles Edge D-II Ferris State for Second Place at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The weather may have shortened this weekend's tournament to only one round, but the Saint Mary's golf team took the opportunity to edge out Division II Ferris State by a single stroke to finish second at the Trine Spring Classic on Friday.

With continued inclement weather, including snow, in the forecast for the weekend, the tournament was shortened to just Friday's round. Hope won the event with a 322. The Belles posted a 336, and Ferris State turned in a 337 in a field of 13 scoring groups. Hope's Britni Gielow, Nicole Meyer, and Morgan Leep all shot rounds of 79 to finish tied atop the leaderboard.

Ali Mahoney led the way for Saint Mary's with an 81 to finish tied for fifth place. She ended the round with a round-best three birdies and was tied for fifth (+7) on par four holes on the day. Courtney Carlson carded an 84 to finish tied for eighth after posting seven pars and a birdie.

Kelsey Conkright and Taylor Kehoe wrapped the team score for the Belles with rounds of 85 (t-15th) and 86 (t-20th), respectively. Conkright had nine pars and was among the top 20 players in par four scoring while going one-over on par five holes. Kehoe had a team-best 10 pars while joining Conkright in the top 20 in par four scoring in the round.

Sammie Averill was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible golfer and shot an 87 to finish tied for 22nd. She was among the top 22 in the field in par four scoring in the round.

Isabella Speedon competed as an individual and turned in a 91 for a share of 36th place overall.

The Belles are back on the course next weekend when they travel to the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling on Saturday and Sunday.
