Belles Finish Eighth at WashU Spring Invite

Day Two Results

  • Sammie Averill shot a 79, and Taylor Kehoe added an 81.

  • The Belles cut 18 strokes off Saturday's score and finished eighth overall.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Saint Mary's golf team cut 18 strokes off yesterday's round and turned in a score of 334 to finish eighth in a field of 12 teams at the Washington University in St. Louis Spring Invite.

Rhodes shot a 296 on their way to a two-day score of 613 for the team title at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course. Carleton and Sewanee both had team scores of 645 to tie for third. The Belles posted a two-day score of 686 to edge Rend Lake Community College by three strokes. Mackenzie Cohen from Rhodes was the individual tournament medalist with scores of 77 and 71 for a 148.

Sammie Averill led the Belles with a 79 on Sunday afternoon. The senior had a birdie on the par three 11th hole, eight pars, and just one double bogey on the day. Her two-day score of 166 put her in a tie for 16th overall. Taylor Kehoe carded an 81 with a birdie on the par five 18th to go along with nine pars. Her 166 put her in a tie with Averill for 16th overall in the tournament.

Courtney Carlson posted an 85 with a birdie on the par three sixth hole while turning in seven pars. The junior finished tied for 36th with a 173 on the weekend. Ali Mahoney wrapped up the team score with an 89. The senior had a birdie on the par four first hole and had the second-lowest score on the front nine for the Belles with a +7. Mahoney finished 49th individually with a 181.

Kelsey Conkright was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible golfer at the event and shot a 93 with a birdie on the par four 12th hole while posting four pars. The sophomore finished the tournament tied for 54th overall with a 185. Katie Zielinski competed as an individual and had a 93 on Sunday. She had three pars in the round and finished tied for 57th with a 186.

The Belles compete in the Trine Spring Classic on Friday and Saturday, April 8-9 at the Zollner Golf Club in Angola.
