Belles Solid in Season Opener

  • The Belles finished second at the Cross Town Rivalry.

  • Eight Saint Mary's golfers shot in the 80s.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team fired a 326 and finished second at the Cross Town Rivalry against Holy Cross and Bethel at Erskine Park Golf Club on Friday.

Bethel shot a 309 to finish first while Holy Cross was third with a 332. Via the Stableford Format, the results stood the same as Bethel was +79, Saint Mary's +37, and Holy Cross -4.

Kaitlyn Cartone led the way for the Belles with an 80. Taylor Kehoe carded an 81, Ali Mahoney shot an 82, and Lauren Read had an 83 in her first collegiate round for the Belles.

Lydia Lorenc posted a score of 84 while Julia McAlindon (86), Courtney Carlson (87), and Kaitlyn Gray (89) were all below 90 on the day. Emily Besler had a 90 for the Belles. Isabella Speedon shot a 92, and Courtney Quinlan carded a 93. Kelsey Conkright rounded out the Belles' efforts with a 95.

The Belles are back in action on Saturday as they face off against Bethel in a Match Play competition at Juday Creek Golf Course starting at 1:00 p.m.
