Belles Finish Tenth at DIII National Preview

Day Two Results

  • The Belles finished in tenth place at the NCAA Division III National Preview Tournament.

HOUSTON, Texas - The Saint Mary's golf team matched their Monday score on Tuesday with a 367 to finish in tenth place at the Division III National Preview at Bay Oaks Country Club.

Texas at Tyler made the leap from fourth place to first with a one-stroke victory (636) after shooting a 310 on Tuesday. The University of Redlands finished second with a two-day score of 637 after a 317 today. Whitman was third (643), Claremont Mudd Scripps fourth (651) and Southwestern fifth (665). Whitman's Phoebe Nguyen was the individual medalist after a 76 on Tuesday gave her a two-day score of 150.

Ali Mahoney had the team's low two-day score of 177 after turning in a 92 on Tuesday to finish with a share of 37th overall. Lauren Read cut four strokes off of Monday's round with an 88 today for a final score of 180 (t-41st). Kaitlyn Cartone finished the tournament tied for 48th with a score of 187 after shooting a 95 on day two. Taylor Kehoe rounded out the team score with a 92 in the final round and finished with a share of 50th overall (190). Kaitlyn Gray was the Belles' fifth scoring-eligible golfer at the event and shot a 96 on Tuesday for a two-day score of 197 (53rd).

Kelsey Conkright led the Belles' B team in the tournament with a two-day score of 193 (52nd) after a 97 on Tuesday. Emily Besler had an 11-stroke improvement from Monday's round and shot a 95 in the second round to place 54th overall with a 201. Lydia Lorenc shot a 107 and finished with a final score of 202 (t-55th) while Isabella Speedon matched her score from Monday with a 101 to also tie for 55th (202). Courtney Quinlan posted the biggest improvement by a Saint Mary's golfer from day one to day two by shaving 14 strokes off of her Monday score for a 105 while finishing 58th (224).

The Belles are away from competition until the Trine Spring Classic, which takes place over the weekend of March 31-April 1.
