Belles Finish Second in MIAA NCAA Automatic Qualifier

SAUGATUCK, Mich. - Eleven strokes separated the Saint Mary's golf team from a chance to compete in the NCAA Championships this spring as the Belles finished second at the end of three 18-hole rounds of competition.

Hope earned the MIAA's automatic bid to the national tournament after posting a 335 on Saturday to finish the spring season with a score of 996. The Belles shot a 342 at the third round and ended the spring qualifiers with a score of 1,006. Olivet was third (1,023) while Trine was fourth (1,077). Trine's Julia DeBelly was the round medalist after shooting a 79 on Saturday.

Taylor Kehoe led the Belles with an 81 to finish tied for second in the round. She was tied for the best par four scoring on the day while leading the field with 11 pars. Lauren Read turned in a score of 83 to finish in a tie for sixth place individually. The freshman had ten pars, a birdie, and was one-over on par five holes on Saturday. Ali Mahoney carded an 85 to finish in eighth place overall. She was tied for the fifth-best par three scoring average on the day and had seven pars.

Kaitlyn Cartone finished 13th overall with a score of 93 to round out the team's 342. She posted five pars and a birdie while tying for the second-best par three scoring in the round. Kaitlyn Gray was the fifth player in the lineup for Saint Mary's and shot a 95 to tie for 15th place. The freshman tied for the tenth-best par four scoring average at the event.
