Belles Lead Cross Town Rivalry After Day One

  • Hunter Kehoe led both Saint Mary's and the field with the best score of the day with a four-over par 76.

PLYMOUTH, Ind. - The Saint Mary's golf team came out firing in their first competition of the 2018-19 academic year by posting a round-low score of 318 to lead the field after day one of the Cross Town Rivalry.

The Belles hold a seven-stroke lead over second place Bethel. Holy Cross was third (356) while IUSB rounded out the field (392).

Hunter Kehoe led both Saint Mary's and the field with the best score of the day with a four-over par 76. The sophomore had a round-best three birdies - including a chip-in from off of the green on the par-five fourth hole - while adding nine pars as she went one-under on the back nine. Classmate Summer Stillson was third overall after carding a 78. Stillson carded a round-high 11 pars while sinking a birdie.

Taylor Kehoe posted a score of 81 to finish in a tie for fourth place in the round. The senior tallied ten pars and was one-over par on par five holes for the day. Lauren Read rounded out the team score with an 83 to tie for seventh overall. The junior had seven pars, one birdie, and was two-over in par three scoring in the round. Sydney Hruskoci was the fifth player in the scoring lineup for the Belles and shot an 84 for a share of tenth place. Hruskoci had a birdie, eight pars, and was one-over in par three scoring in her first collegiate round.

Hannah Finley and Maggie Sexton each competed as individuals for the Belles. Finley carded an 86 to gain a share of 12th place overall. She had two birdies - including a dramatic long putt on the long par-three 17th hole - to go along with six pars. Sexton shot a 90 and is currently tied for 16th overall. The freshman had six pars and was among the top 11 players in par four scoring in the round.

Day two of the 2018 Cross Town Rivalry begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth.
