Belles Tripped Up by Warriors in Debut

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team ended on the wrong side of an 18-2 final against Hendrix in their varsity program debut on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead through the first 6:46 of play, but the Belles broke through with their first-ever goal at the 10:20 mark as Tess Guerrero connected with Aubrey Golembieski to make it a 3-1 game.

Hendrix, however, went on a flurry over the next seven minutes of play to establish an 11-1 lead with 13:20 left before halftime. The Warriors added a pair of goals in the final ten minutes of play of the opening half for a 13-1 advantage at the break.

Over the second half of play, Hendrix outscored Saint Mary's 5-1, but the Belles posted improved numbers in both clearing efforts and shots in the final 30 minutes.

The Belles closed out the scoring in the game as Golembieski netted her second goal of the game with one minute left in the contest.

Stephanie Szymas was dealt the loss in goal while playing all 60 minutes and making nine saves.

The Belles (0-1) take on Rhodes in Memphis tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CST.
