Givens, Singler Sweep MIAA Player of the Week Honors

FREELAND, Mich. - For the first time this season and second time in program history, Saint Mary's lacrosse swept both Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week awards. Sophomore goalie Cara Givens earned MIAA Defensive Player of the Week accolades while freshman midfielder Mary Singler was tabbed as the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.

Givens earned a 2-0 record in goal as the Belles won both competitions last week. She registered a career-high 12 saves, including three in the first three minutes of overtime, in a 17-16 comeback win at Illinois Tech. On Saturday, she made nine saves in a 16-10 victory at home against Ohio Northern. During the week, she posted a 44.7 save percentage for Saint Mary's.

Singler had back-to-back games with a program-record seven goals while helping lift the Belles' offense to a 33-goal outburst last week. Against Illinois Tech, she scored four goals in the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime while posting eight total points in the 17-16 win. She matched her own record with seven goals on Saturday against Ohio Northern while adding nine draw controls and four ground balls.

It is the first MIAA Player of the Week honor for each member of the lacrosse team.
