Doyle Named Rookie of Year as Four Belles Earn Lacrosse All-MIAA Honors

  • Erin Doyle was named MIAA Rookie of the Year after a breakout season.
  • Doyle, Kate Kelly, and Rachael Leonard were First Team All-MIAA selections.
  • Kendra Osinski was named Second Team All-MIAA.

FREELAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team matched a program-high for honorees as it had four of its members garner All-MIAA accolades for the 2018 season, led by MIAA Rookie of the Year Erin Doyle. Doyle, Kate Kelly, and Rachael Leonard were First Team All-MIAA selections while Kendra Osinski was named Second Team All-MIAA.

Erin Doyle was selected as the Rookie of the Year while earning a spot on the First Team as a midfielder after leading the conference in goals during her freshman season with 43. The Niskayuna, New York, native was one of two players to reach the 50-point plateau in league play in the 2018 season. A three-time MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, Doyle was tenth in the conference in ground balls and tied for 15th in draw controls in the eight games of MIAA play.

Kate Kelly joined Doyle on the First Team as one of the five midfielders on the list. A native of Orland Park, Illinois, she led the conference in draw controls in 2018. Kelly was also in the top ten among all players in the league in total points, goals, assists, ground balls, and caused turnovers. It is the third All-MIAA accolade for the junior as she was named to the First Team as a freshman and the Second Team last spring.

Rachael Leonard was one of just three defenders to be named First Team All-MIAA in 2018. A native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, she was tied for second in total ground balls and tied for fifth in caused turnovers during the conference season. A two-time MIAA Defensive Player of the Week this spring, she helped lead the Belles to the highest ground ball total and the fourth-highest caused turnover total among league teams in 2018. It is the second consecutive year she has been named to the First Team.

Kendra Osinski garnered the first All-MIAA accolade of her career after getting the nod for the Second Team. A native of Orange, Connecticut, she split time during the 2018 season as a goalie and attacker and was named to the Second Team for her work on attack. She had ten goals and an assist in league play. Against the top three teams in the conference, she scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Hope, posted four goals on five shots - including the game-tying goal - in an overtime loss to Calvin, and led the team with four goals at Albion.

The four honorees ties last year's total of four honorees as the most All-MIAA performers for the Belles lacrosse program. It is the fourth consecutive year at least one member of the program has earned All-MIAA recognition.
