Auditions for South Bend Chamber Singers

The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS), the region’s premier vocal chamber ensemble, announces auditions for experienced singers from northern Indiana and southern Michigan for its 26th concert series, 2014-15. Singers should bring a prepared solo and they will be tested on sight-reading and aural abilities. An accompanist will be provided. Nancy Menk, professor of music at Saint Mary’s College and the ensemble’s music director, will conduct the auditions, which will be held Saturday-Friday, August 29 to September 5 in room 309 of Moreau Center for the Arts at Saint Mary’s College. Concerts for the coming year include "Christmas at Loretto" at Saint Mary's on Sunday, December 21, showcasing new music for the season performed in a great acoustical space and featuring harpist Charles Lynch. Repertoire will include the world premieres of new works by Swiss composer Ivo Antognini and American composer Marjorie Rusche. We’ll preview this concert on Saturday, December 20 at Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven, Michigan. 

On Sunday, March 1 we will join with several choirs from the University of Notre Dame to perform Mendelssohn’s great oratorio "Elijah," with guest soloist Nathan Gunn, under the baton of Carmen-Helena Tellez. 

For the final concert of the season on Sunday May 17, the singers return to the Church of Loretto to explore rarely heard works from the vast collection of Russian sacred music in "Radiant Russian.
