South Bend Chamber Singers Auditions

The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS), the region’s premier vocal chamber ensemble, announces auditions for experienced singers from northern Indiana and southern Michigan for its 25th concert series, 2013-14. Singers should bring a prepared solo and they will be tested on sight-reading and aural abilities. An accompanist will be provided. Nancy Menk, professor of music at Saint Mary’s College and the ensemble’s music director, will conduct the auditions, which will be held Saturday-Friday, August 17-23 in room 309 of Moreau Center for the Arts at Saint Mary’s College. The season begins with the 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration on Saturday, October 26 beginning at 6 p.m. The event features a cocktail reception, dinner, retrospective, and concert.

Concerts for this anniversary season include:

Christmas at Loretto: A Retrospective on Sunday, December 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Church of Our Lady of Loretto on the Saint Mary’s campus. The evening will feature new music for the season performed in a great acoustical space. Repertoire will include favorite past commissioned works and carol arrangements and the world premiere of a new work by American composer Susan LaBarr.

Choral Collaborations: An Anniversary Concert on Sunday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Church of Our Lady of Loretto. SBCS will join the Saint Mary’s College Women’s Choir for the concert, which will feature the world premiere of a new work by Welsh composer Paul Mealor and other works for double choir. May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto. The concert will feature Ein Deutsches Requiem in Brahms’ original transcription for four-hand piano, performed by SBCS past and present accompanists David Eicher and Kathleen Keasey. Soloists are Saint Mary’s music professor Laurel Thomas, soprano, and Stephen Lancaster, baritone.

The Beauty of Brahms: This concert will take place on Sunday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto and will feature Ein Deutsches Requiem in Brahms’ original transcription for four-hand piano, performed by SBCS past and present accompanists David Eicher and Kathleen Keasey. Soloists are Saint Mary’s music professor Laurel Thomas, soprano, and Stephen Lancaster, baritone.
