November 30, 2011 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—The Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) at Saint Mary’s College will host a year-end, tax-planning seminar for women business owner/operators in the community on Friday, December 9. The event, titled “Ask a CPA: Is it Time for QB YET? QuickBooks Year End Tasks”, will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. in Vander Vennet Theatre in the Student Center. It is open to the public and free to attend. Rita Miller, CPA and manager at Kruggel Lawton CPA, a Michiana accounting firm, will present the talk. The event is co-sponsored by WEI, Kruggel Lawton CPA, and KeyBank’s Key4Women® initiative.

The talk will discuss year-end tasks to be performed in QuickBooks. Attendees will learn the importance of cleaning up the balance sheet by year’s end; how to review asset additions and make depreciation adjustments; how to prepare 1099 filings; and how to enter accruals and corrections to accounts.

This event is an example of one of WEI’s primary goals: to partner with community businesses, non-profits and organizations to provide financial and business education services to women entrepreneurs in the Michiana region. To register for the seminar, email wei@saintmarys.edu or call (574) 284-5262. Space is limited. Click for a campus map.

About the Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI): In 2009, the College received a $245,000 Small Business Administration grant to support women’s entrepreneurship programming in the South Bend community, which led to the creation of WEI. The initiative was developed through the collaborative efforts of the Department of Business Administration and Economics (BUEC) and the staff of the Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL). Through WEI, which got underway in the spring semester, the College is partnering with community businesses, non-profits and organizations to provide a number of financial and business education services to women entrepreneurs. WEI is pronounced "we."
