January 28, 2013 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—Saint Mary’s College Security and the University of Notre Dame Fire Department were alerted to a fire in O’Laughlin Auditorium at 10:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 27. Security officers were the first to respond to the alarm and found the curtains at stage left on fire. The sprinkling system above the curtains was working and a security officer used a fire extinguisher to further contain the fire. When Notre Dame Fire arrived within about three minutes, the curtains were still on fire but it had not spread. Clay Fire Territory and the South Bend Fire Department also responded to the call. No one was in the auditorium when security and the fire crews arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The program “An Evening with Audra McDonald” will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Gillespie Center at the Hilton Garden Inn on the edge of the Saint Mary's campus instead of at O'Laughlin.

Classes in Moreau Center for the Arts, which is connected to O’Laughlin, are cancelled Monday. Classes will resume in Moreau on Tuesday.
