September 9, 2011 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—Saint Mary’s College students have announced the date for this academic year’s annual Dance Marathon for Riley Hospital for Children. It will be held on Saturday, March 31 from noon to midnight in Angela Athletic Facility. But the fun and fundraising won’t have to wait until spring. There are two Dance Marathon-related events scheduled this fall.

Trot for Tots: This annual 5K on campus will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28.  The race will begin at the soccer fields on the north end of campus. The cost to participate is $12 and runners/walkers will receive a Trot for Tots tank top. All proceeds will go towards the Dance Marathon total. This is the fourth year for the 5K. You may download a Trot for Tots registration form and either bring it to the event or email it to dmarathn@saintmarys.edu. Pre-registration is not required.

High-Heel-a-Thon: The perfect event to be held at a women’s college, the High-Heel-a-Thon is rescheduled to take place on Monday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. Students and members of the public will strap on their favorite high heels and take part in a 50-yard dash down the drive between Angela Athletic Facility and McCandless Hall. There will be several heats, so everyone will get a chance to participate. Men interested in racing can borrow a pair of heels from a supply that will be on hand. Prizes include gift certificates from local hair salons. This is the second year for this event. There is a fee of $5 to participate. All proceeds will go towards the Dance Marathon total. You may download a High-Heel-a-Thon registration form and either bring it to the event or email it to dmarathn@saintmarys.edu. Pre-registration is not required.

“Trot for Tots and the High-Heel-a-Thon are great fundraisers for Dance Marathon. Like Dance Marathon, the races require that we be on our feet. Like we always say with Dance Marathon, we stand for those who cannot. All of the events allow the South Bend community as well as students and Riley families to come together for fun events. It is also a great way to raise awareness for Dance Marathon and Riley Hospital for Children. We hope to get even more people involved not only to have a good time, but to become aware of the need for funds for the hospital," said Rebecca Guerin ’12, president of Dance Marathon.

Since Saint Mary’s students brought the Dance Marathon to the College in 2006, students here have raised over $380,000 for the hospital.
