September 2, 2014 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — Saint Mary’s College will host the Aquila Theatre’s production of the classic novel "Wuthering Heights" on Monday, October 13 as a part of this year’s Shaheen/Duggan Performing Arts Series at the College. The production will take place at 7:30 p.m. in O'Laughlin Auditorium. Ticket information available at moreaucenter.com. Click for a campus map.

The production illuminates Emily Bronte’s story of passion, revenge, family, class, and the supernatural that will strike contemporary audiences despite the age-old setting.

“It's exciting to provide a dramatic portrayal of this famous novel to our students and patrons,” said Richard Baxter, director of special events at Saint Mary’s College. “Perhaps it will ignite an even deeper passion for reading and learning, especially the classics ”

"Wuthering Heights" tells the story of two ill-fated lovers in the lonely moors of northern England. Heathcliff and Catherine meet as children when Catherine’s father brings the abandoned boy home to live with them. The two grow up together, living freely on the moors while Catherine’s brother torments Heathcliff. When Catherine’s parents die, her brother turns Heathcliff out, forcing him to live among the servants. Catherine marries and the crushed Heathcliff disappears. Years later, a wealthy Heathcliff returns, but is it too late for them?

The Aquila production re-imagines one of the most famous love stories ever told. Aquila Theatre is renowned for its ability to adapt works of classical literature into enthralling and mesmerizing live performances. Impeccable design and a unique physical style combine with a marvelous cast to make "Wuthering Heights" an exquisite and captivating theatrical experience.

“Our Performing Arts Series is presented primarily for our students to experience a variety of art forms, and it benefits the community for the same reason.  An endowed fund from the Shaheen family is used to bring  these artists to campus,” said Baxter.
