Division for Mission to Host Second Annual Summer Theological Institute

January 30, 2017 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — Saint Mary’s College Division for Mission is thrilled to announce that they will be hosting the second annual Embody Summer Institute for high school girls from July 9-14, 2017 on campus. This is an opportunity for young women to explore themes of beauty, justice, and faith and to reflect on how their inner beauty both comes from God and leads to a better understanding of others.

Scavenger Hunt

During the week, students will have the opportunity to preview college life — living in residence halls, eating in the Noble Family Dining Hall, and learning from Saint Mary’s students who are enthusiastic about their faith and excited to share their experiences. Outstanding faculty from Saint Mary’s and beyond will lead participants in theological instruction and reflection. Students will engage in art projects, various forms of prayer, and community service in order to put their faith into action.

“Embody is a chance for Saint Mary's to continue the tradition of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in educating women's hearts and minds and preparing them as leaders of service in the Church and the world,” says Jessica Mannen Kimmet, campus minister and coordinator of the institute.

“We remind participants that they are beautiful, and we frame that beauty in a theological context that gives it enduring meaning. We give them opportunities to make their beauty more visible through works of charity and justice, and we do all this in a framework of prayer and community that reminds us that we are never alone on our journeys of faith.”

Small Group Embody

The Embody Summer Institute has been made possible by a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Initiative Theology for High School Youth. Because of their generosity, the College is able to offer students a special rate of $180, which will cover tuition, room and board, and all activities during the week. Deadline to apply is April 15.
