Dress for Success Event Held at SMC

Event Gives Michiana Women the Opportunity to Grow Professionally

Thirty young women are serving as camp counselors in Valparaiso, Ind., this summer thanks to a collaboration between the Camp Counselor Career (C4) Program, the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago, and Northwest Indiana. These young women will serve as camp counselors in their summer camps in Valparaiso, Ind., many of whom come from underrepresented backgrounds. As part of the program, the young women all receive career training designed to prepare them for life beyond camp. In support of this initiative, Saint Mary's College, the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana, and Dress for Success Michiana joined forces on Wednesday, June 11, to host a Dress for Success workshop between Holy Cross and Spes Unica here at the college.DSC03769.JPG

Volunteers from the Dress for Success Michiana board, Saint Mary's College, and the University of Notre Dame came together to make this event a success. This workshop featured a variety of presentations, including skill-building sessions led by Stacie Jeffirs, Director of the Career Crossings Office at Saint Mary’s, as well as mock interviews and a style session. Attendees explored the Saint Mary’s campus Dress for Success boutique and selected a variety of professional clothing items. The campus boutique is one of two Dress for Success area locations. It is available to women in Michiana, including students, faculty, and staff from Saint Mary's and the tri-campus community.

Outside of this event, Dress For Success Michiana also offers workshops, professional attire, and job search assistance to women in the area.
