Reduced Shakespeare Company Brings Twist on American History to Saint Mary’s College

August 30, 2016 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — Saint Mary’s College will welcome the critically acclaimed Reduced Shakespeare Company to the O’Laughlin Auditorium on Tuesday, September 20 for its performance of The Complete History of America (Abridged.) The comedic actors will take the audience on a tour of American history as written by Adam Long, Reed Martin, and Austin Tichenor in the reduced stylings that have made them a sensation. The intellectually humorous and fast-paced show comes to the College just in time for this election season.

Formed in 1981, the Reduced Shakespeare Company has created 10 world-renowned stage shows, two television specials, and numerous radio pieces, all of which have been performed, seen, and heard all over the world. The company’s itinerary has included stops off-Broadway, at the White House, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, London’s West End, and Montreal’s famed Just For Laughs Festival, as well as performances in Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malta, Singapore and Bermuda, plus countless civic and university venues throughout the country, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

The company’s first three shows, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)The Complete History of America (abridged), and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged) ran for nine years at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus. They were London’s longest-running comedies.
