Saint Mary’s College Hosts Third Annual Free Sports Clinic for Girls

March 31, 2017 (Notre Dame, Ind.)  — The Saint Mary’s College Department of Athletics is hosting their third annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic on Sunday, April 2. This year, the College will again host close to 100 girls ranging in age from 6-12 for the two-and-a-half hour event.

The clinic is a way for Saint Mary’s to celebrate and highlight National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). The Women’s Sports Foundation established NGWSD 31 years ago as a way to celebrate extraordinary achievements of women and girls in sports.

Each participant in the clinic will have a chance to try four half-hour sessions in basketball, strength and fitness, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball run by students on each of the College’s eight varsity athletic teams.

"Regardless of if these girls play only in middle school, through high school, or end up playing in college, at any level, I'm glad I get to be a part of fueling their excitement about not only playing their individual sport, but what it means to be an athlete as a whole," said junior lacrosse player and camp counselor Hanna Makowski ’18.

The event opens with a welcome and explanation of NGWSD by Saint Mary’s College Director of Athletics Julie Schroeder-Biek. The girls will then attend their four clinic sessions before a closing remarks by Schroeder-Biek at the closing. The clinic begins at 2 p.m. at the Purcell Athletic Fields on the campus of Saint Mary’s College and concludes with an autograph session at 4:30 p.m.

While registration is full, media is invited to cover.
