Professor of history and Gender and Women’s Studies Jamie Wagman said Bremyer’s essay is a must-read and especially important in the contemporary racial climate.

"Dr. Bremyer's beautiful and powerful essay ties together the painful history of segregated swimming pools with a personal story, one that also underscores just how much language and words matter right now. The message is one that needs to be heard, and we welcome all to the event."
