"Slapstick Sonata" Brings Visual Poetry and Physical Comedy to Campus

February 9, 2017 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — Saint Mary’s College will welcome Cirk La Putyka, a theatre company from the Czech Republic, to O’Laughlin Auditorium on Sunday, March 5 at 2:30 p.m. for their production of Slapstick Sonata. The program will include physical feats and acrobatic skills as the performers tell an amazing tale set to classical music.

The opening scene is a darkened warehouse in Prague where workers are going through the motions of another tedious overnight shift. Slowly the laborers break out of their mundane routine, shedding their drab existence for a vibrant explosion of color, humor, movement, silliness, and physical theater. Set to the music of Mozart, Handel, Shostakovich, and others, Slapstick Sonata is a bizarre yet poetic theater piece without text or words.

Cirk La Putyka is one of Europe’s leading physical theatre companies.  The ensemble combines a multi-talented cast of actors, mimes, dancers, and comedians and has toured throughout Eastern and Western Europe as well as the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Australia.

Tickets for Slapstick Sonata are available for $11-$20.  For more information and to get tickets visit moreaucenter.com or call (574) 284-4625.
