SMC Talks Brings Alumnae Together

SMC Talks logoThe Alumnae Association Board of Directors’ mission is to provide volunteer leadership for the alumnae community of Saint Mary’s College, and to promote opportunities for alumnae to connect. Promoting connection among alumnae from across the country and around the world has always been a challenge but never more so than when the pandemic began in 2020.

The world changed in 2020 and what had previously been impossible became common — including meetings and events online. For years, the AABOD had considered ways to highlight alumnae with interesting careers, involvement in their communities, or ideas similar to TED Talks. However, we were limited by technology. All that changed when the whole world went virtual and from these monumental changes was born SMC Talks.

SMC Talks is a virtual seminar modeled after TED Talks, whose slogan is “ideas worth spreading.” Each short program features an alumna who shares insights on professional topics, personal growth, spiritual inspiration, or distinctive talents.

Beginning in January 2021 with our first speaker Dr. Amanda Blackwell ’09 and continuing throughout 2021 and 2022, SMC Talks have highlighted and connected alumnae from around the world. In choosing speakers, the AABOD has committed to finding diverse and unique alumnae who exemplify all that the Saint Mary’s community has to offer.

In the coming months, this exciting and inspiring program will continue with your help and support. To nominate a speaker or watch previous SMC Talks, go to alumnae.saintmarys.edu.
