Sports Information Director Earns 2nd MIAA Writing Award

June 16, 2017 (Notre Dame, Ind.) — The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honored Sarah Miesle ’07, sports information director at Saint Mary’s College, with the 2016-17 Robin Hartman Writing Award.

Miesle's winning piece, “A Hardwood Heartbreak," recapped the basketball career of Saint Mary's Aspen Davis ’17. Davis recovered from a knee injury in high school, a broken arm as a first-year, a concussion as a junior, and arthritic pain throughout her basketball career for her senior season with the Belles - only to have her final year cut short by injury.

Miesle is the second sports information director in the MIAA to be a two-time recipient of the Hartman Award. She received the honor following the 2014-15 season for “Bald for a Bigger Cause,” a story about a basketball player, Kelsey Trimble ’18, who participated in the “Bald and the Beautiful” initiative at Notre Dame for those battling cancer.

Miesle has served as the sports information director at Saint Mary's since 2008. She oversees the publicity of all eight intercollegiate sports at Saint Mary's, including publications, social media, photography, and statistical updates.
