A Moment in Time
“Everywhere you turned you would see people dancing and singing in the streets—just doing whatever they could to keep warm and content,” describes Anna Frantz '11 of the record-setting crowd attending the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. Franz attended the January 20th event by invitation of the University Presidential Inaugural Conference. She also attended other celebrations surrounding the Inauguration including the “We Are One” concert the Sunday before, as well as a ball held by the hosting conference.
Frantz describes the atmosphere at the Inauguration as “one of its own,” with people being friendly, happy, and excited to witness history. “I believe that no matter what race, religion, or party you are you can still agree that seeing the first African American president take the oath is a once in a lifetime experience.”
The social work major is taking advantage of all that Saint Mary’s has to offer. She is a member of the Social Work Club, Friends with Sisters, and the executive council for Dance Marathon; she is a Eucharistic minister and a freestyle swimmer on Saint Mary’s Swimming and Diving teams. With a major in social work, she plans to work in the government or public sector as a social worker, “helping those in need.”
Frantz, like many others, says she chose Saint Mary’s because when she came to campus she felt like it was the right place for her. The best part of being a student says Frantz is “knowing that I am actually a person with a name and not just someone in the crowd.”
