This year’s Commencement Speaker was alumna and mental health author/blogger Therese Johnson Borchard ’93. Borchard is associate editor of Psych Central, where she contributes regularly to the award-winning blog, “World of Psychology.” She also writes the daily blog, “Beyond Blue” and is author of the books “Beyond Blue: Surviving Depression & Anxiety and Making the Most of Bad Genes” and “The Pocket Therapist: An Emotional Survival Kit.”

If you missed her speech, you can read her address (and comment on it) on her May 23 blog or you can watch part 1 and part 2 of it on You Tube.

If you’re interested in reading more about Borchard, the cover story for the June issue of the St. Anthony Messenger is about her. It’s aptly titled “Therese Borchard: Beyond Blue”. In it she mentions Saint Mary's College.

Borchard is also mentioned in an article about valedictorians and commencements published in The Capital, a newspaper in Annapolis, where she lives.

Meanwhile, while she was on campus, Borchard met psychology professor Catherine Pittman. Professor Pittman gave her a copy of the book she co-authored with library assistant Lisa Karle called "Extinguishing Anxiety: Whole Brain Strategies to Relieve Fear and Stress". Borchard wrote about the book on her May 31 blog.
