Preparing for the Dementia Tsunami: Helping People to Prepare, Care, & CopeThe Department of Psychological Sciences is pleased to invite you to a talk by Beverly E. Thorn, Ph.D., a neuroscientist, clinical psychologist, and end-of-life doula.
In her presentation, Dr. Thorn will discuss her 7-year experience as a dementia caregiver, how to be prepared and survive in this role, and related research on dementia. Dr. Thorn will also share information she wished she had had and learned while she cared for her husband: information about dementia and its progression, the need for financial planning and advance care directives, death with dignity, and more. Following her talk, there will be a book signing for her recently published book, Before I Lose My Own Mind: Navigating Life as a Dementia Caregiver.
Dr. Thorn's talk is co-sponsored by the Saint Mary's College Office of Academic Research, Grants and Sponsored Programs, and the Departments of Biology, Gender and Women's Studies, Nursing Sciences, Social Work and Gerontology, and Speech Language Pathology.
