The Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership at Saint Mary’s College is proud to present “A Discussion on Body Image and Self Esteem, a Mother-Daughter Conversation” on Saturday, May 21 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Regina North Lounge. The discussion will be led by Saint Mary’s communication studies professors Terri L. Russ and Marne Austin as well as psychologist Milene Jeffirs. The event is free but ticketed. The valedictorian(s) reflects the mind, the Lumen Christi Award recipient represents the soul, and the Outstanding Senior embodies the heart of the class. The Saint Mary’s College Alumnae Association is proud to announce the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Senior Award is Eleanor Jones ’16. She will be honored at the Alumnae-Senior Champagne Brunch on Monday, May 9 as part of Senior Week festivities leading up to Commencement, Saturday, May 14. Jones will graduate magna cum laude with a degree in global studies. Junior Yaqi Song ’17 Honored with Saint Catherine’s Medal When Yaqi Song ’17 attended Honors Convocation on Sunday, May 1, the junior art major had no idea that she would be recognized at the event, which celebrates graduating seniors. Song, an international student from Chengdu, China, received the Saint Catherine Medal, an award recognizing a sophomore or junior who demonstrates high standards of personal excellence and scholarship and contributes to the College community in the spirit of Christian leadership. The award commemorates Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of scholars (especially women scholars). Kappa Gamma Pi, the National Catholic Honor Society, sponsors the award. Saint Mary’s College Recognizes Five Faculty with Prestigious Awards This semester Saint Mary’s College proudly recognized five professors with prestigious faculty awards for demonstrated excellence inside and outside of the classroom and dedication to their profession and students. The Academic Affairs Council, chaired by Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney and made up of administrators, faculty, and staff, votes on the most deserving recipients after reading through nominations. The vote results are kept secret until the honors are bestowed.
