Sisters Sisters
“Sisters, sisters / There were never such devoted sisters . . .” Who can ever forget that song of constant sisterhood sung by Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen in the classic film White Christmas?
The spirit of that song certainly infuses this conversation between the Murphy sisters— Nancy Murphy Spicer ’79 and Marianne Murphy Zarzana (ND ’78)—centered on Nancy’s rich career as a multidisciplinary artist and, more recently, as a Certified Professional Coach.

Centralized Research Office Opens at Saint Mary’s
When Grace Layman ’24 needed advice for her application to the Fulbright Program, she learned a world of resources was just steps away in Madeleva Hall.
That’s where a new academic research and grants office has opened for faculty, staff, and students. Anyone looking for grant funding or for advice on publishing can utilize the Office for Academic Research, Grants, and Sponsored Programs. There, a full complement of support services aims to centralize the wide range of opportunities and resources for the campus community.

Announcing New Vice President for Strategy and Finance
President Katie Conboy announced that Peter L. Christensen will join her leadership team on January 16, 2024 as Vice President for Strategy and Finance. Christensen comes to Saint Mary's from New York University’s campus in Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) where he serves as Chief Administrative Business Officer & Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives.

Author Explores History Through Personal Lens
Saint Mary’s College welcomed Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Annette Gordon-Reed on October 12 to speak about her newest book, On Juneteenth. Gordon-Reed is a professor of history at Harvard University, a professor of law at Harvard Law School, and an award-winning author of six books. She comes to Saint Mary’s as a visiting lecturer for the Departments of History and Gender and Women’s Studies.
