Indiana Private College Week, July 21-25, Encourages the Campus Visit Summer is a favorite time for high school juniors and seniors to visit colleges. Indiana Private College Week, Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25, offers high school students the opportunity to take a look at any of the state’s 31 private, non-profit colleges and universities, including Saint Mary’s College. Although visitors are welcome throughout the year, this concentrated week offers students an opportunity to visit multiple campuses in a short period of time. The week is sponsored by Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI). Auditions for South Bend Chamber Singers The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS), the region’s premier vocal chamber ensemble, announces auditions for experienced singers from northern Indiana and southern Michigan for its 26th concert series, 2014-15. Political Science Professor on State of the Union (WSBT Radio) Political science professor Sean Savage, a political analyst for WSBT radio, offers his critique of President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address on Tuesday. Savage called it a modest speech, though noting that the president introduced plans to sign executive orders to raise the minimum wage for federal contract workers and to create a new savings program for workers whose employers don't offer retirement plans. Signing the executive orders means the president doesn't need to go to Congress for approval. Social Work Students Work with Bureau to Count Homeless Youth (Observe... Seniors in one of social work professor Frances Kominkiewicz’s course will assist the Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County in its research concerning the best possible way to determine the number of homeless youths in the South Bend area. “If we are unable to effectively locate the homeless youth, we will be unable to determine their specific needs and then work at meeting those needs,” Kominkiewicz said.
