Opera Scenes Teach Leadership and Vocal Technique
From handbell choir to women’s choir, there’s a plethora of musical opportunities open to students at Saint Mary’s College. One unique opportunity presented to students is taking part in an opera workshop for course credit. Students learn vocal technique, and the campus community gets to enjoy the fruits of the student’s hard work at the Opera Scenes performance held in Dalloway’s Clubhouse on February 24 and 25.

Elena Sarmiento ’23 Chosen as the 2023 Orr Fellow
Saint Mary’s senior Elena Sarmiento has been selected for the prestigious Governor Bob Orr Indiana Entrepreneurial Fellowship. This two-year program gives recent graduates the experience of working with Indianapolis-based companies that are committed to mentorship and professional development.

Sparking the Next Generation of Athletes
Athletic Director Julie Schroeder-Biek spent the week leading up to the National Girls and Women in Sports Day clinic in eager anticipation. Knowing that 125 active 6- to 12-year-old girls would be at Angela Athletic Facility, laughing and learning about sports, she was overjoyed.

The Holy Cross Legacy of Service and Action
While Martin Luther King Day is intended as a national day of service—a “day on,” not a “day off”—Katie Conboy sees Saint Mary’s community members as shining examples of consistent action not just on one day of the year, but in regular quiet commitments. A Note From the Cloakroom: An Avenue for the Arts
Saint Mary’s College has two entrances on the east side of campus. The road that enters the campus by the Inn at Saint Mary’s is Brother Andre Drive. The main entrance, a little further to the south, is a tree lined road known simply as The Avenue. It is a polite nod to the history of the College and a view that carries meaning, memory and sentiment for most alumnae.

Saint Mary’s Community Gives Back
The Saint Mary’s College Office for the Common Good (OCG) is taking the stress off of South Bend residents this holiday season. As Christmas draws near, the office has answered the call to support those in need by participating in the annual Adopt-a-Family program. Through the support of faculty, staff, and students, the office ensured 103 people in the local community will have gifts under their tree on Christmas morning.

SMC Talks Brings Alumnae Together
The Alumnae Association Board of Directors’ mission is to provide volunteer leadership for the alumnae community of Saint Mary’s College, and to promote opportunities for alumnae to connect. Promoting connection among alumnae from across the country and around the world has always been a challenge but never more so than when the pandemic began in 2020.
