Murphy shares how she and another student developed the concept for a mobile application called "Beautiful You." It's designed for women and offers daily affirmations and encouragement. Thanks to a Saint Mary’s chemistry professor, 13 of her students, a number of chemistry alumnae and counterparts at the University of Notre Dame, third-world countries may one day have an inexpensive way to test counterfeit malaria drugs that make people sicker. Research at the institutions has led to Paper Analytical Devices (PADs) that can determine whether a drug can help or hurt. A provisional patent application was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the group is working towards having the PADs patented.
