Tattoos as Form of Communication (South Bend Tribune)
The South Bend Tribune is running a series on the popularity of tattoos. Among those interviewed is Terri L. Russ, assistant professor of communication studies, who teaches a course at the College called Female Beauty. She talks about how tattoos are a form of communication. Also interviewed is psychology major Ashley Goorhouse '12 who wrote her senior comprehensive on tattoos and women. Her research shows that throughout history women with tattoos are perceived more negatively than men with tattoos.

The Center for Spirituality (CFS) at Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce its spring lecture series. Invited to speak this year at the two lectures are Margot Fassler, Ph.D., Keough-Hesburgh Professor of Music History and Liturgy University of Notre Dame and Amy Hollywood, Ph.D., Elizabeth H. Monrad Professor of Christian Studies, Harvard Divinity School.

National Science Foundation Awards Saint Mary’s $600K Grant for STEM...
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the College more than half a million dollars to promote the advancement of women in science and engineering. The foundation granted the women’s college $600,000 through the NSF PRISM Women Scholars Program to provide scholarships for up to 20 Saint Mary’s students, beginning in the 2013-14 academic year.

Accounting Professor on Fiscal Cliff (WSBT-TV)
If Congress fails to agree on a new tax plan by the end of the year, taxpayers will suffer when the U.S. falls off what's being called the "fiscal cliff."It's said a series of automatic tax hikes and tax credit reductions could cost the average taxpayer thousands of dollars and could send the U.S. into another recession. WSBT-TV interviewed John Cergnul, assistant professor of accounting, about it.

College and community say farewell to beloved Sister Basil Anthony
On Wednesday, December 21, members of the College community gathered to bid a fond farewell to Sister Basil Anthony, who died on December 16 at the age of 94. Sister B.A., as she was known, held every administrative post at the College except president during a career that spanned 37 years.

Donnelly Ends Local Political Drought (South Bend Tribune)
U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly ended a long drought for local politicians Tuesday. When the Granger Democrat beat Republican Richard Mourdock for one of Indiana's seats in the U.S. Senate, he also became the first St. Joseph County resident in almost a century to win a Senate seat.
