A Prayer for the Victims of the Newtown, Connecticut Tragedy
From the Office of Campus Ministry at Saint Mary's College: During this Advent Season our hearts are heavy as we remember those who lost their lives in Newtown, Connecticut. Words cannot convey the sympathy we extend to those impacted by the tragedy. May we pray in solidarity with their grieving families and friends.

2012 Romero Days Commemorate Justice Education's 30th Anniversary
Saint Mary’s College and the University of Notre Dame will commemorate the life of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero with the 2012 Romero Days, March 27-28 (Tuesday and Wednesday). Events will be held on both campuses and include a film screening, a workshop, and a lecture given by South African Bishop Kevin Dowling. Romero Days will honor the 30th anniversary of Saint Mary’s Justice Education Program.

While juggling your plate of the chips, salsa, buffalo wings, and pizza and your beverage of choice, try to keep a hand free for your smart phone. Like a sportscaster giving a play-by-play analysis, you can “broadcast” your review of the highly anticipated Super Bowl ads. Yes, there are aps for that and plenty of social media and Internet sites.

Bishop Features Valedictory Address in Weekly Column (Today's Catholic...
The Most Reverend Kevin C. Rhoades, Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, featured the valedictory address by co-valedictorian Anne Bulger '12 is this week's issue of Today's Catholic. The Bishop called her address, read by her at Commencement, "excellent." He said, "It is very encouraging to hear reflections from our youth whose faith is an inspiration."

Making a Pitch for Women in Baseball (South Bend Tribune)
Justine Siegal, founder of Baseball for All, a non-profit organization that advocates that both sexes be allowed to play ball, spoke at the College last night. Her talk is associated with a two month-long exhibit in the Cushwa-Leighton Library called “Women in Baseball.”

'89 Alumna Recounts ND Championship Memories (The Observer)
Julie Wagner Feasel, a 1989 graduate of Saint Mary’s, recounts the excitement of when Notre Dame played for the national championship when she was a senior. Now her daughter, senior Meghan Feasel, gets to enjoy a similar experience. Julie was able to attend the game and she's hoping Meghan can attend this one.

Lecture to Consider Contemporary Feminist Movements
Saint Mary's College will host Mary Caputi, professor of political science at California State University, Long Beach, on Thursday, March 1. Caputi will present her lecture, “Warrior Women vs. Ragpickers: Divergent Paths in Contemporary Feminism,” at 7 p.m. in Stapleton Lounge, Le Mans Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Dance Marathon Let's Spoon Fundraiser
Dance Marathon is several months away (Saturday, March 23, 2013), but the fundraising for Riley Hospital for Children has already begun. The public is invited to participate in the following event. Let’s Spoon Give Back Night: Visit either Let’s Spoon location in South Bend (1635 Edison Road or 1290 Ireland Road) and, as long as you bring along the coupon, 20 percent of the sales will go towards the Dance Marathon total.

Chipotle Fundraiser for Dance Marathon
Dance Marathon is a few months away (Saturday, March 23, 2013), but the fundraising for Riley Hospital for Children has already begun. Riley Hospital, located in Indianapolis, treats sick children from all over the state, including the South Bend area. Since Saint Mary’s students began the Dance Marathon in 2006, they have raised more than $460,000 for the General Benefit Fund at Riley, which supports the areas of the hospital that have the greatest need. The public is invited to participate in the following event on Thursday, December 6, 2012. Chipotle Fundraiser Night: Visit the Chipotle at 1251 Eddy Street (Eddy Street Commons) between 2 and 10 p.m. and, as long as you bring along the coupon, 50 percent of the sales will go towards the Dance Marathon total for Riley.
