Social Work Research Helps Shelter (South Bend Tribune)
Two groups of social work seniors in professor Fran Kominkiewicz’s Research Methods course conducted surveys at the Hope Ministries homeless center in South Bend last semester. One team asked clients about their health and lifestyles while the other group surveyed them about their housing, education, and employment histories. The results will help the center assess their programs and make potential changes, some of which have already been implemented.

Student Helps Sisters with Super Bowl Anti-Trafficking Initiative (Sou...
If hotel workers in Indianapolis know how to spot sex trafficking this Super Bowl weekend, it may be because of Catholic nuns, including Sisters of the Holy Cross, and a Saint Mary's College student. Cailin Crowe '13 is among the foot soldiers for the cause to end human trafficking. She compiled the names and contact information for the general managers of about 120 hotels.

Accounting Students Place Second in CPA Collegiate Contest
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that its accounting team came in second place in the annual Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS) Case Study Competition held in Indianapolis on November 16. Saint Mary’s competed against finalist teams from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Manchester University, Purdue University, the University of Southern Indiana and Valparaiso University.

Professor on Helping Kids with Autism Cope with Holidays (WSBT-AM)
The lights, sights, sounds, and hustle and bustle of the holidays can lead to sensory overload for children on the autism spectrum. WSBT-AM 960 interviews Susan Latham, assistant professor of communicative disorders, on how to prepare the kids for what to expect and help them cope.

Furry Friends Live on Campus (University Business Magazine)
This fall, Regina Hall South is for seniors only, and, if they choose, their pets. It’s part of expanded residential options that have attracted more seniors to live on campus. Saint Mary’s students are required to live in residence halls for three years and typically half choose to live off campus as seniors. But not in 2012-13. Approximately 75 percent of fourth year students will live on campus this year.

WEI Co-Hosts Northern Indiana Minority and Women’s Enterprises Fair
The Saint Mary’s College’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) and the Indiana Department of Administration’s (IDOA) Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (MWBE) Division are proud to co-host the 2012 MWBE Northern Indiana Resource Fair. This year’s event, titled “Personal Empowerment for Small Business Owners,” will be held in the Student Center at Saint Mary's College on Thursday, March 15 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Student Recognized for Dedication to ND Skating Team (examiner.com)
Rosie Krzemien '14 was named the 2012 recipient of the Andy McMahon Memorial Award for Outstanding Spirit and Dedication to Notre Dame Figure Skating during the Notre Dame Figure Skating Club’s annual ice show on Sunday, April 1. Krzemien, a sophomore, is majoring in communicative disorders with a minor in psychology at Saint Mary's College.

Moreau Open for Classes after Weekend Fire (The Observer)
Saint Mary’s students, faculty, and staff were alerted early Saturday morning of a fire in the basement of the Moreau Center for the Arts in a theatre set storage area. Saint Mary’s security, as well as Notre Dame’s Fire Department, received the campus fire alarms simultaneously. The musical ‘The Secret Garden’ will go on as scheduled this coming Friday and Saturday.

Gates Millennium Scholar Chooses Saint Mary’s Over Others
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that a member of the Class of 2016 is a Gates Millennium Scholar. Clarisa Medina of San Antonio, Texas is one of 1,000 extraordinary high school students this year to receive a scholarship to attend the college or university of the student's choosing. Medina chose Saint Mary’s. She is the College’s first Gates Millennium Scholar.
